Climate of Shimla

Moderately warm and pleasant climate in summers and mostly very cold climate in winters are the main features of Shimla weather. The average temperatures during summers (March to June) are between 14°C and 20°C and with a maximum touching about 25°C. The minimum temperature during winters (November to February) can go as low as -7°C with maximum never crossing 10°C. Around Christmas, Simla experiences snowfall. Heavy woolens are suggested from November to February months. The rainy season is in July and august months

Best time to visit Shimla is summers.

The isotherms of Shimla happen to match with that of London throughout the year and is the reason for Britisher's choice of Shimla as its summer capital.

Winter: Winters in Shimla are chilling. December, January and February are the months when Shimla experiences heavy chilling cold, with chilly winds coming from Himalayan snow peaks. During winters, the temperature goes below freezing point and nights are bone chilling. Snowfall is also very common. Maximum temperature during winters is 8 -10 degree Celsius.

Summer: Summer is the season when Shimla offers respite to people, from severe heat and heat waves of the plains. The summer season starts from April and lasts until June. During this season temperature, fluctuates between 15 deg C to 28 deg C.

Monsoon: Monsoon comes to Shimla in the month of July and lasts until September. During monsoon, the entire hill resort beams with a green hue. The temperature during monsoons drops considerably during this time. This is the time to enjoy the lush greenery of Shimla. One can often see clouds floating the valley below and one is above the clouds. These scenes are visible in the rainy season only.

• Summer season:  (May June): cotton clothes
• Rainy, autumn and spring season ( July - October, March - April): Cotton and Light woolen clothes
• Winter season (November - February): Heavy Woolen clothes are required
